Fake It Till You Make It

10 Apr

Tanned fat looks better than white fat. It just does. But, no wrinkles looks better than wrinkles. Catch-22 ain’t it?

There is a solution – Fake it ’till you make it with self tanner, y’all!

I love me some faux glow year ’round. I was not naturally blessed with tan-prone skin (thanks mom), so I take advantage of a tan-in-a-bottle pretty much all the time. Pasty white is just not a good look on me!

My favourite tanner for face are the Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Glow Pads. Use one of these on your face once or twice a week for year-round colour. I prefer these pads over other self tanners specifically designed for the face because they have the most anti-aging properties and vitamin D.

For colour on my body I like Clinique Self Sun Body Tinted Lotion in Medium/Deep, or the St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse. I like to use it at night after showering and exfoliating, let it soak in over night, and then shower in the morning. The result is a natural looking tan. For deeper colour, just use it a few nights in a row.

For a one-night, special occasion faux glow, and maybe my fave product in the whole world right now….That’s Sun Makeup On-The-Go Dark. Just a quick spritz of this when you get out of the shower and you are good to go all day! It smells good, dries fast, and you don’t need much product at all! Actually less is more with this. The best part – no rubbing it in!

Tips for Properly Applying Self Tanner:

1. Put moisturiser on your knee caps, elbows, hands and feet prior to self sunning. The moisturiser ensures an even colour on these parts.

2. Wash your hands immediately after! Like, immediately. Or, use a self sun mitt like this one from St. Tropez. The mitt works best with a mousse.

3. Don’t overdo it. Orange looks good on NO ONE. Self tanners generally take 3-4 hours for the colour to completely show.

4. Don’t shower right away. The tanner needs time to do it’s thing.

5. Wear sunscreen. Nothing to do with self tanner – just don’t forget it!

And remember….

DO

DON’T

Definitely don’t skimp on the quality. Orange tans are the worst! 🙂
