Plank Your Way Into the Summer

Summer is officially 6 weeks away! So what better time than now to start planking?

Planks are a fantastic strength exercise that tones your abs, arms, and butt, without lifting a weight! Want to be longer and leaner by summer? Try my little planking routine in the morning and at night for at least 6 weeks. By working your core muscles you will also be strengthening them which improves posture…and good posture can make you look 5 lbs. thinner 😉

Perform each type of plank for 30 seconds, and rest 10 seconds before moving onto the next:

1. Normal Plank – Keep your body weight central, tummy tight.

2. Plank with Right Leg Lifted – Keep your right leg elevated for the duration of the plank.


3. Plank with Left Leg Lifted – Keep your left leg elevated for the duration of the plank.

4. Plank Push-Up – Start in a plank on forearms, move to a plank on hands, then back down to forearms. Repeat.

5. Plank Jacks – Start in a plank with feet together and jump feet out into a large V. Jump feet back together, and repeat that sequence at a medium-fast pace.

6. Plank Swivels – Start in a plank position and move your butt from side to side, almost touching the floor each time.

7. Side Plank (Left) – Balance yourself on your left forearm and left foot. Stack your right foot on top of your left and hold your abs tight. You should feel this in your obliques!

8. Side Plank (Right) – Same as above but opposite side.

9. Planking Oblique Crusher – Start in a plank up on your hands, and bring your left knee into your left elbow. Place your left foot back on the ground and perform the same with your right. Repeat.

10. Dolphin Planks – start in a regular plank on your forearms, and jackknife your butt up into the air. Slowly lower and repeat.

Now go get your plank on so you can have your abs on this summer!
